How to Get What You Want:

This article describes the universal process of creation.  It can be applied to any and all desires and areas that interest you.  In fact, this process describes what already happens naturally when you have a want or desire.  By being aware of what is happening we have an opportunity to become a more conscious participant and thus be more effective.  You can get what you want.  The secret is in understanding just who and what you really are.

Here are the main stages of the process:

  1. Green
When a desire first comes to you it is green, meaning that it is vague or in rough form.      Thus it is said that Venus (related to desire and the color green) comes to us initially "dressed in rags".

  2. Burn our Copper:
Next, we work with this new want or desire to discover what is  at its root - to discover just what it is that we really want.  In Alchemy, this is called "Burning our Copper" because we are using the fiery element in our consciousness to refine our desire (symbolized by Venus and the alchemical metal copper), finally arriving at the desire's  essential root elements.

Just what is it, "exactly" that I desire?
    Why do I desire this?
Is it is good for me to want this?
What is my true motivation, for doing or obtaining this thing?

As a part of this discovery process, we learn and study about what we want to obtain, be, or do and all its aspects, including learning techniques, theories, and applications.   In this way we refine our initial desire from a vague wish, into a concrete plan into which we can focus our will and move ourselves to action.  We come to know the object of our desire and thus come to know the essence contained within the form.

  3. Turn it White:
In this crucial step we relate the desire to its cosmic aspect.  In this recognition of the Universal in our particular want,  we come to see that God is with us - that though we "walk through the valley of the shadow of death, thou art with" us.  It is this step that most needs to be made conscious if we are to truly transmute our desires.  We must reach up and within to find this connection just as the Magician reaches up with his white wand to contact the source of limitless energy from above in order to bring about change, below.

This is what we can do by relating the aspects of our desires to the various Tarot Keys.  Through our study and through meditation & intuition we thus imbue our particular desire with the essence of that inner Spirit which inspires all desires.  In this identification of our personal desires with what amounts to a universal tendency, we tap into a source of power.

Remember, ALL Desire ultimately comes from God.   Desire is God's promise to us.  All Desire at its root is Good, for at its root, all desire is about obtaining more livingness, more aliveness.

So, in order to turn it white, you must first discover the goodness that is at the root of your particular desire, for you can't hold your attention very long on something that you do not love.

By finding the goodness which does lie at the core of our desire, we can transmute the form of our desire from a crude or merely personal thing into a means for achieving a greater good.

  4. Turn it Red and make Visible Coin:
Then our intention, our volition, comes into play. We use our self-conscious intellectual powers to keep the vision before us, to deepen our intention, to focus our purpose. Then we act to bring about the outward, visible expression of the desire into appropriate physical embodiment.

If you've turned your desire white you won't be conflicted when you then take action, because you will have recognized the true nature of your desire.

This entire process of creation can be summarized via the symbolism of the Magician
This process occurs automatically and unconsciously when a desire naturally prompts one to concentrate upon something.   By making this process "conscious", however,  one has the opportunity to transmute their expression of the creative principle and thus cooperate in their evolutionary growth.

bulletBurn Copper:
First, the Magician fixes his gaze upon the subject he wishes to modify via his actions  [Analyzing the desire by studying the object of one's desire until one arrives at its essence]. The wand on the table symbolizes fire and the initiating will which focuses and directs the attention upon the desired subject in order to come to know it.

bulletTurn White:
Then he raises his right hand (symbolizing conscious effort) and uses his white wand to contact the true source of power for the accomplishment of the act [Turn the desire white]. The cup on the table symbolizes the receptive nature of the act.

bulletTurn Red & Make Visible Coin:
Finally, the Magician gestures with his left hand towards the subject (the garden) and acts by placing the suggestion which brings about change. [turn red and make visible coin] The sword on the table symbolizes the action, and the coin symbolizes the physical embodiment or result.

How this process is accomplished specifically, is shown in the Keys of the Tarot Major Arcana:

The Manifestation Process
For whatever it is you desire or wish to manifest:

Recognize that the Desire as it first comes to you is green, meaning that it is still in rough form.

Burn Copper:
Analysis burns away the dross, leaving the essential concrete core of what it is one truly wants within the area of study / interest / desire.

1. Attention: Pay attention, Read, Observe, Concentrate regarding aspects of whatever it is you wish to obtain, be, or do.
2. Memory: Data collection & retrieval techniques.  Take notes, make lists, ruminate,  start a journal.
3. Imagination: Generate flow of creative concrete imagery on the subject.  Daydream, imagine, brainstorm.  The desire is made more specific and thus stronger.
4. Reason: Analyze, organize, recognize patterns, categorize.  Focus on those things which look promising  and eliminate those things which do not support your goal.

Turn White
Imbue & Saturate with Cosmic/Universal Principles/Laws/Outcomes

5. Intuition: Establish a more conscious link to your Inner wisdom reaching within and up in order to receive from that level of higher knowing.  Hunches and intuitions come to you.
6. Discrimination Establish true discrimination and inner harmony, resolving any inner conflicts.  You thus come to see clearly what must to be done.  You make your decision.

Turn to Redness & Make Visible Coin
Employ the Will/ Volition / Intention ; Action
Changes are thus made to the body/mind, and to the physical universe.

7. Receptivity-Will: Be able to express more of the One Will through your Personality through the recognition of who and what you Truly are.
It's no longer the little separate personality saying "oh gee, I don't know if I can do it", but instead it is recognizing that Will Power flows through your body & personality  as its instrument for the accomplishment of what IT desires - which is what YOU desire.   You apply "will".
8. Suggestion: Performing the Magical Act: Taking action and doing what is required, but without  being attached to the results.  Be aware that to be attached to the results of your efforts is to make images of failure.
