The Shadow02 Aug 2001 Sometimes I end up speaking for the Shadow...Unrecognized shadow contents hurt people more than anything else I've ever witnessed, I like my stuff plain flavored and up-front as possible. L. ___________________________ There's that Shadow again... and yes L., you are accurate in stating that unrecognized and un dealt with issues of the shadow are hurtful to others, but also, they are impediments to the Great Work that prevent us from attaining the realization and illumination we desire. I would also like to recommend the following book for all those on this list: OWNING YOUR OWN SHADOW by Robert A. Johnson. (In fact, all his works are great) Here's part of a review: "The shadow is that which has not entered adequately into consciousness. It is the despised quarter of our being. If it accumulates more energy than our ego, it erupts as an overpowering rage or some indiscretion that slips past us; or we have a depression or an accident that seems to have its own purpose. The shadow gone autonomous is a terrible monster in the psychic house. The process of owning one's own
shadow, then, is finding balance and equilibrium between our light side and our
shadow side. That means embracing the paradox, recognizing the value and purpose
of our shadow. It is the place of reconciliation, to make whole once
again." Rey. ___________________________ Rey, The "Shadow" exists in the same way the Devil exists. It does not exist as some separate (external) entity. Shining some light on the "shadow" reveals it to be none other than the Red Lion "acting out" under the control of the woman in K8 - patterns activated by suggestion. So instead of embracing your shadow, I would suggest embracing your Red Lion as shown in K8. Fearful shadow RL ___________________________ Excellent! I Like It! This says it so well -- it's only scary while it's unknown. Otherwise -- surprise! -- it's the One again wearing a different face. What a prankster! Turiya ___________________________ Hmm... this would make sense if you are referring to the shadow as the Green Lion. Needless to say both should be embraced. This would explain some of the references from the works of Basilius to the feeding of the Red Lion on the Blood of the Green Lion. It would seem to me that by consuming the darkness of the shadow into the perfected work of the Red Lion one would come eventually come to unity. But, I am unsure as to what you are referring to Red... could you please clarify? Rey. ___________________________ Rey, the Red Lion is to be embraced in the same way as woman embraces the lion in K8, through loving discipline and the cultivation of desire. We tame the vital animal soul through Love and turn the adversary into a powerful ally! Remember the story "Beauty and the Beast"? RL ___________________________ > > The "Shadow" exists in the same way the Devil exists. It don't. > >Saying the shadow does not exist is like saying there's no such thing as the unconscious. This kind of distorted pop psychology isn't constructive. Rebis. ___________________________ The Devil exists -- in the unconsciousness -- in much the same way as the Shadow exists. So true. This is not what RL meant -- least I don't think it was. Really, folks, let's take a look at the "3 Orders of Thought" essay at www.jnanayoga.org and keep it straight which level we are talking about. RL was making a 1st Order comment. The stuff about archetypes and the shadow is 2nd Order thought. just a little goofy today, Turiya ___________________________ Good point Turiya, Here is what I am saying:
