Motivations
_______________ 12 Jun 2001 How much easier it is to presume other's motivations than it is to observe our own. The classic dance is: How often do we seek to conceal/protect our own motivations, while seeking to know the motivations of others. We should all fall on our swords (K6) more often! Commentary delimited by ***** RL Joseph writes: I received it from a good Iranian friend. It's OK. a clever joke . Rey queries: Is there a reason to make a distinction in race regarding the natural of your friend? Wouldn't it have been just as accurate to say that it came from a good friend? Just curious as to why you seek classifying person(s) according to their ethnicity? ********** Rey's implied Motivation: "Just Curious ?!?" "just curious" is another name for a motivation as yet unexamined or veiled. Rey implies that JN's motivation is: "You seek to classify people superficially? Why?" [a challenge is issued] ********** Joseph Adds: Because i like to. The same reason you don't. OK?? I didn't know till now that you regard ethnicity as an insult and that's OK too. Joseph *********** JN's implied motivation: Defending personal choice. JN implies that Rey's motivation is: "You presume I am being
unspiritual?" Rey replies: I never said that. You are projecting words that were not stated... I hope you are aware of that? I was just curious as to whether there was a reason for your delineation of ethnicity, as that seems to alienate us from the One Race that we really are. But, if it works for you to distinguish racial attributions that fine by me. It just struck me as odd that someone as illumined as yourself would seek such segregation even in writing? I thought there must have been a good reason for it, but like you say... because you like to. Thanks for the clarification, Brother Joseph. Shine on you crazy diamond! *********** Rey's implied motivation: Just Curious about appearances of incongruity - not what I expected from "someone as illumined as yourself". Rey, you've discovered that your idol has clay feet. Time to rejoice, yes! But the idol is not "out there". The idol is in your mind - as it is in ALL of us. We smash the idols within by self-application of the sword. See also: Ideal- Hero- Idol My foolish motivations are: 1) Help others see their motivations. 2) Show everyone how clever I am. 3) Who knows why I do what I do? Won't someone please stick a fork in me? Maybe I can goad someone into doing it for me? Otherwise I'll have to do it myself. Here's a common motivation: Self sword application through proxy! See also categories of desire, for a listing of motivations. RL _____________________ I just like ethnicities. I traveled all over the world --from age 19 to 71. Derived great pleasure, early on, in contacting other ethnics. Still do. Their different values have made me examine my own. Thanks Red Lion for calling attention to our propensities of assuming motivation in others. Rey, i don't really know that you think it bad to mention ethnic background, but you have perfect right to express it if you do. That elderly white man--Joseph. |
