Intentions
Conscious intention merely speeds up and intensifies the already naturally occurring phenomenon of doing and reaping. The spiritual aspirant and the hedonist are both "Doing what they want to do." Different sowing reaps different fruits. Same in kind, just different in degree. John replies: Sure, I agree with this completely. Did I misread the original posts as echoing the often-aired opinion that intentional creation is silly, pointless, and misguided? Your quote kinda sounds like that to me: _____________________________ John, here is another wonderful example of PARADOX and of the different levels and degrees of "Intention".
All of these examples are different, and yet they are merely different phases of the same process. Even when one is "misguided", they are SELF (SELF acting as self) guided. As you transmute, so are YOU transmuted. "Doing" invariably leads to "Becoming". When one begins to recognize the "becoming" in every "doing", then a reversal begins to take place and one naturally begins to tend towards greater transparency which begins to ALLOW the doing to do "through" instead of striving from the more attached, separatist and opaque viewpoints. Desire evolves through expression. Noel said it wonderfully: "The process of evolution is the process of 'identification', and transmutation is the process of 're-identification'. It may be clear that these are the same process, though viewed from different angles, so to speak. It may be clear that evolution is in the purview and control of the "ONE". It is hoped that it will be equally clear that transmutation is, likewise, under the control of the "ONE". Being a 'conscious co-creator' does not mean that the power of transmutation is given to the separate personality, rather it means that the separate personality has been sufficiently "clarified" that the Will of the "ONE" may flow through it with somewhat less distortion than would normally be expected." RL _____________________________ IMO nature herself nurtures intentional creation. The natural process of evolution brings us to the point where we must be creators if evolution is to progress; it is not a matter (IMO) of completing the cycle of evolution either sooner or later, but a matter of moving to the next stage, flowering if you will. If I want to shelter my family from the elements, I can try to just "let it happen", and will get absolutely nothing. To reach that goal I must plan and build, and the better I plan and build, the more useful the result. JB _____________________________
Yes indeed. The three stages of doing:
RL _____________________________ Natural evolution leads us to the doorstep of intentional creation. Nature tends to react to "failure to try" by encouraging to try, sometimes quite unpleasantly. JB _____________________________ Yes, one can bounce between perspectives #1 and #2 quite a bit. Fire and water, fire and water - Transmutation on the anvil of life. The secret to getting to perspective #3 is to engage fully, but release attachment to the results of our work. RL _____________________________ > Conscious intention merely speeds up and intensifies the already naturally occurring phenomenon of doing and reaping. Why the word "merely" to suggest that this is a small, meaningless difference? All your explanation that follows, while true, still leaves me unclear on this. While I grant some people aggrandize themselves by claiming that they are levels above others because of their "spiritual" stature I don't think we have that problem on this list. Why not "magically" or "subtly" or "wonderfully" ? I'd say the shift from unconsciously be driven along by life to consciously co-operating with Life's Magic of Evolution and Transmutation is something to be celebrated, savored, appreciated, and eternal thanks given for. I suspect you do all these but for some reason, in some on this list - not just you, there is a rhetorical disposition to minimize this and I don't think that sends the best message to subconsciousness. Good reason not to make personal consciousness bigger than it is but no reason to make it smaller, either, I'd say. Christian _____________________________ Christian, It's not my "conscious intent" to minimize conscious intent. Just the natural result of doing what I want and my resulting Calcination - reaping the results of having been previously "attached" to my conscious intent! My natural use of the adjective "merely" does, however, send a hint to the subconscious that the volition is not mine separately and personally (little separate ego). In other words, it is hint that the Magician is not the source of the magic. The Magician is "merely" (there's that word again) a transparent Channel for the ONE WILL. Now, do I feel personally diminished that my self conscious i is "merely" a channel and not the doer? Not at all. The mind-blowing reversal is that the more I am diminished, the more I am exalted, and experience an ever greater influx of joy and stability. I have personally experienced this in small quantities in my life. The most powerful experience of this was when I was plunged into a deep state of helplessness and grief. I let go, fell into the black pit and was surprised by a profound sense of peace and joy. The resulting stability gave me the strength to "act without attachment" and thus change my life. The less i do, the more I do. Yet I ain't doing a damn thing, except what I want to do. Ever greater "doing and being" requires that one learn how to get out of the way. Thus the use of the term "merely" is a reminder which acts as a influx turbocharger by helping me get out of the way. PFM! Another Paradox! RL |
