Aspect of Consciousness: The Law of Rotation
Hebrew Name: Kaph
(closed, grasping hand)
![]()
"Kaph is the hand of man in the act of grasping. To grasp is to
hold, to comprehend, to master. What can be grasped mentally is
intelligible, clear, explicit, positive, definite, precise."2 The mental comprehension of the cyclical nature of the Universe leads
to greater control over the process of creating and manifesting form.
As a double letter, Kaph is attributed to the opposites of Wealth and Poverty. "These are the extremes of property, the external signs of one's grasp of circumstances."3
Qabalistic Intelligence: The
Rewarding Intelligence of Those Who Seek
The Law of Cause and Effect is always rewarding us with the results of
previous causes. In spite of appearances to the contrary we are always and
continually being successfully rewarded in the present in accordance with preceding
cycles.
Astrological Correspondence: Jupiter
"Jupiter is the planet of good luck, optimism, success, and
generosity. Jupiter brings joy to life [...] Jupiter has always been
identified with the idea of expansiveness and abundance."4
"In astrology, Jupiter signifies [those] who have a firm grasp
on the comprehensive, lucid statement of ideas in the administration of
practical affairs."5
Number: 10
"Ten combines the ellipse of Superconsciousness (0) with the vertical
line of self-consciousness (1). It is the number of perfection and
dominion."6 Ten is the Power of 0 manifesting through the
Agency of 1. It is representative of the manifested Universe - the Life
Power, focusing itself down into particular forms.

Symbolism:
(Summarized from "The Tarot", by P.F.Case)7
The Wheel: "A symbol of the whole cycle of cosmic expression." Comprised of four concentric sections including the central point. These sections correspond to the four worlds of Atziluth (Center point), Briah, Yetzirah (the mental or formative world), and Assiah (physical world). Within the portion of the wheel corresponding to the formative world, contains four alchemical symbols for: Superconsciousness, Self Conscious awareness, Subconsciousness, and Dissolution (The Sign of Aquarius and Man). The meaning is that man learns to dissolve the various forms of appearance which surround him, extracts their essence, assimilates that essence to himself, and projects into new forms modified by his creative imagination.
The Sphinx: "The real Self of man behind the veil of personality." Symbolizes the One Thing which transcends personality and which remains motionless above the turning wheel. The Sphinx is the "propounder of the riddles of existence", and the answer to the "riddle of the sphinx" is Man. The sphinx carries a sword symbolizing the element of air, the formative (mental) world, and discrimination. The meaning is that the perfection represented by the sphinx is attained by conquest of the mental world, and this conquest is brought about by right discrimination.
The Serpent: Represents the descent of the serpent power into physical manifestation. The involution of light into form.
Jackal headed Hermanubis: Symbolizes the evolution of form and is a specific symbol for the average present development of the human personality.
Four Corners: The four living creatures typify the fixed, eternal modes of the One Reality which remain permanent in contrast to the changes symbolized by the turning wheel. Cycles of change take place within the One Reality which itself remains unchanged. The bull symbolizes the fixed mode of reality attributed to Taurus; the Lion, Leo; the man/angel, Aquarius; the eagle, Scorpio.
The challenge is to consciously apply the Law of Rotation to
everyday life:
| Rotation: You go with the rhythm of the universe in that you do not cling to the past; nor are you attached to "things" such as possessions, ideas, and truths. You act with knowledge of the Great Law which states: "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Knowing this, you use dissolution and right discrimination to dissolve the illusions of appearance and assimilate that which helps you in the next cycle of growth. You travel light and thrive on change. |
In "Living the Tarot", Amber Jayanti provides some suggestions for integration and application of The Wheel of Fortune:
|
The Imagery of the Wheel of Fortune can be used to:8
Become more attuned to the natural cycles of things. Recall that your higher self guides the wheel through its turns. [Remember that change is a never ending constant part of all life.] | |
| Ask yourself the following questions:9 What roller-coaster ride would I like to end? Where might it be beneficial to become more of a 'witness', or practice discriminating detachment? What cycle would I like to begin or end? What points am I at in my cycles - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual? What challenging predicament have I unconsciously created? What situation is making me feel wealthy or poor? In what area are my ideas ahead of their time? Where are my needs out of sync with others? Am I gaining new understanding as to how a present situation was set in motion? |
